Investing in Team Madigan
The Madigan Foundation recognizes that our dedicated staff are the backbone of care for Soldiers, Veterans, and their Families. From clinical teams to support staff, the tireless work of every individual ensures the health, readiness, and resilience of our military community. We are proud to provide programs that nourish, recognize, educate, and connect those who care for others — because when the team thrives, the patients thrive.
Below are some of the programs we offer to support and invest in Team Madigan
Julie Burger Health Care Professional Education Fund
The Madigan Foundation is proud to partner with Western Governors University to expand education in dementia and memory care. Expected to launch by late summer 2026, this program will provide selected staff members the opportunity to earn college credit and potential promotion points while completing courses such as Foundations of Dementia and Memory Care and Veterans and Memory Care.
By investing in specialized education, we strengthen the quality of care provided to aging service members, veterans, and their families — ensuring dignity, understanding, and clinical excellence at every stage of life.
This initiative is made possible through a generous multi-year designated fund established by the Burger family in honor of Julie Burger — beloved wife, mother, friend, military spouse, American Red Cross leader, and tireless advocate for Alzheimer’s awareness and research following her own courageous journey with the disease. Through this gift, her legacy of compassion and service will continue to impact countless military families for years to come.
Lehman Memorial Scholarship
Madigan Foundation provides the administrative support for this nursing scholarship program, which was initiated by the Mano-Lehman family as a memorial to their beloved daughter, sister, wife, colleague, and friend. The Memorial Scholarship was established to honor Janice’s passion for healing, education, and patient-centered care. The scholarship will be awarded annually to promising nurses and/or nursing students who demonstrate exceptional ability to lead and to serve with compassion.
Nursing Excellence Support
Nurses are at the heart of patient care, and The Madigan Foundation proudly celebrates their dedication. We sponsor Annual Nurses Week activities to recognize exceptional performance and partner with COL Lehman’s family to administer the Lehman Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship supports Madigan nursing staff who aspire to advance their education and professional development, strengthening both their careers and the quality of care they provide
Graduate Medical Education & Military Medical Research
Excellence in military medicine depends on continuous learning and innovation. The Foundation supports GME by funding outstanding research projects and providing grants to advance impactful medical studies. Since 2005, we have also sponsored the Major General (USAF) Jack Gamble Lecture on Military Medical Research, honoring MG Gamble’s legacy while bringing medical professionals together to share discoveries and inspire innovation. These initiatives strengthen operational readiness and the future of military healthcare.
Midnight Meals for Residents
Caring for our military community happens around the clock. Residents and staff often work long, demanding hours when dining facilities are closed. Through our Midnight Meals program, we provide healthy, nutritious “box lunches” to sustain staff during late-night shifts — helping them stay focused, energized, and ready to care for Soldiers and their families.
Team Building & Community Support
Strong teams provide exceptional care. The Foundation helps foster morale and camaraderie through staff-focused events — from unit organizational days and barbecues to the annual holiday ball. By supporting opportunities to connect, celebrate, and recharge, we help build trust and resilience across the entire healthcare team.
